Ángeles Castro Corbat® – Ceramic Decor

I was born in May in 1960, in the neighborhood of Belgrano in Buenos Aires.  I began working with clay when I was six years old, with my three sisters in a school workshop on Saturday mornings.

My first teacher was Sister Yolanda, a Brazilian lively nun who shared her passion for ceramics with us.
We used to paint with a cracked turquoise enamel. Today I use a similar color that I named after her.
My first pieces were a turtle and a car for my dolls that I still keep.

When I was fifteen, I began giving lessons for kids. Some years later, I started with classes for adults that I still enjoy with more than 50 students of different ages.
“I love teaching because I can transmit my experience and share my students’ creative process, handling expectations because sometimes things don’t come out as one expects.”

When I was 23, I began creating pottery with my friend Patricia.

We gradually added new products and began working on clients’ requests. During these years, I enjoyed creating and learning. I studied and graduated as Interior Designer at the Design Education Institute of the Women Library. This helped me learn how to use pottery in decoration.

Some of my pieces were chosen to be exhibited at the Annual International Ceramic Competition in Buenos Aires organized by the Argentine Center of Ceramic Art, where I got the first prize in Ceramic Art 2013, and a special mention in 2014.

After more than 40 years, our workshop became a family SME that I share with my husband, two daughters, my sister Ines and a team that has worked with us for 20 years. We cover the whole production process, from the filtering and modeling of pieces, to enameling and firing in three electric ovens that give us a great production capacity. This combination of art and management helped us to achieve a stunning growth.

Our products are sold in about 60 decor stores and used in more than 10 restaurants in several cities such as Buenos Aires, Neuquén, San Martín de Los Andes, Bariloche, Mendoza, Rosario, Bahía Blanca, Coronel Suarez, Santa Fe, Corrientes, Carlos Casares, Rojas, Pinamar, La Plata, Santa Rosa, and abroad in New York, Miami, Oslo, Rome, Madrid and Asunción del Paraguay.

Among our renowned clients are Anthropologie-USA, the restaurant of the Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt international hotel in Buenos Aires, the Los Notros Hotel in Calafate.

I love and fully enjoy what I do, being able to create pieces that are part of people’s everyday life.
